I’m faced with a sartorial conundrum- locating a silk knitted necktie within the confines of Boleh Land or The Lion City. Preferred colour- black or navy blue. I fell in love with the silk knitted necktie when I saw the same displayed in the pages of GQ magazine some time last year, and I have since been trying (in vain) to locate it in any stores in KL or Singapore. So far, no success.
I’ve done some on-line research and managed to upload some photos:-

As you can see, the tip of the tie is square, as opposed to the usual pointed tip in most other ties (silk, etc). My online research of the ties only showed pictures of square-tipped, knitted ties, leaving me to wonder now whether there are any silk- knitted, pointed-tipped ties. If my memory serves me well, the tie that I saw in GQ was a black colour, Ralph Lauren silk knit, pointed-tip tie. I’m not entirely sure how I will look in a square-tipped tie. If all else fails, I will have to request some of my UK-based mates to purchase it for me. Nonetheless, the search for the elusive silk knit, pointed-tip necktie continues…

Unfortunately, my sartorialy inclined friend, the answer to your question appears to be negative (at least in the UK). Although I have on occasion seen some pointed tipped ones, knitted ties mostly tend to be square tipped, probably as a result of the knitting. There is also less likelihood of the thread coming out of a square tipped knitted tie as opposed to the other. Knitted ties are conducive for the man on the go (such as yourself these days) as they tend to pack easily without the usual crumpling associated with conventional silk ties. I don't know how you feel about it but square ties tend to be more Dior and continental rather than Saville Row. Very 80s and military-like. I reminded of those New Wave artists on TOTPs with their tubular microphones and skinny white jeans.
Heh heh... thanks for your input, Mr. Bateman. I'm reminded of the scene in American Psycho where Mr. Bateman was pretending to be on the phone when Willem Defoe's character (Detective Kimball) comes into his office. "Now, John, you've got to wear clothes in proportion
to your physique. There are definite do's and don'ts, good
buddy, of wearing a bold-striped shirt. A hold-striped shirt
calls for solid-colored or discreetly patterned suits and ties..."
Nonetheless(regardless the military-like and 80s style nature of the tie, I guess I just wanna have it la...), Jeanne's going to be in London in approx 2 week's time, during the weekend of the 20th this month. Would you be so kind as to purchase a black coloured, square-tipped, silk knit tie for moi? I'll get her to meet up with you. Let me know the price so she can pay it when she meets you. Much obliged...
OK, but do you specifically want a Ralph Lauren? All black with no patterns? Slim or more on the fat side? Very 80s indeed! What's your budget?
yo,
Yup, just a solid black tie with no patterns. The knitting itself will provide the "patterns".
Polo (even if they stock it) will probably be beyond my budget. Budget would be up to a max of 50quid.
I just checked out Thomas Pink's site. Their store on Jermyn Street apparently has a silk knit tie for 25 quid.
Drake's (15 Garrett St) Margaret Howells (111 Fulham Road, 34 Wigmore St) apparently stock them too.
Only if you're free. No worries- please don't go out of your way to look for it. Actually, if you can't get it in Thomas Pink, then its fine.
Thanks in advance, man. Let me know...
Pink it is then. The summer sales are on at the moment, so it might be a good time to shop for the tie. I'm heading to T.M Lewin at Jermyn Street tomorrow to check out a few shirts anyway, so I'll go have a look see.
